Mod Menu

Fabric has no built-in mod list. You install a JAR and hope it loaded. Mod Menu fixes that — a screen that shows every installed mod, its version, and a shortcut to its config screen. For anyone running more than a handful of Fabric mods, it's the difference between knowing what's loaded and guessing.

What Mod Menu actually does

Fabric does not have a built-in mod list. Without Mod Menu, you install a JAR and hope it loaded. Mod Menu gives you a screen that lists every installed mod, shows its version, and provides access to its config screen if the mod supports one. That's it. It's not a feature mod — it's a UI for information that was always there but never displayed.

For players running large Fabric modpacks, this is essential. Without it, you cannot tell which mods are loaded, which versions you have, or which mods are outdated. You also can't open config screens — Cloth Config, for example, provides the framework for config screens, but Mod Menu is where you access them from. They're complementary: Cloth Config builds the screens, Mod Menu shows you where they are.

The update checker is a secondary feature — it uses the JAR hash to look up the latest version on Modrinth. It doesn't always work (mods not on Modrinth, or modified JARs, cause it to fail silently), but when it does, it saves you from running an outdated version for weeks without realizing it.

What it provides

1
Mod listEvery installed Fabric mod with name, version, and description — the core feature.
2
Config accessOpen a mod's config screen directly from the list if the mod supports it — Cloth Config, YACL, and similar libraries integrate here.
3
Update checkerUses the JAR hash to look up the latest version on Modrinth. May not work for mods not on Modrinth.
4
Search and filterFind mods by name in large packs — critical when 200 mods are installed.

How to install it

Mod Menu is a Fabric mod. It's client-side — the server does not need it. Install it like any other mod JAR.

  1. Install Fabric or Quilt for your Minecraft version.
  2. Download the Mod Menu JAR from CurseForge for your Fabric or Quilt version.
  3. Drop it into .minecraft/mods.
  4. Launch the game. A "Mods" button appears on the main menu and in the pause menu. Click it to open the mod list.
Fabric only. Mod Menu is a Fabric mod. Forge and NeoForge have their own built-in mod list, so Mod Menu is not needed (and will not work) on those loaders.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mod Menu work on Forge?
No. Mod Menu is Fabric-only. Forge and NeoForge have a built-in mod list accessible from the main menu.
Why does the update checker not work?
The update checker relies on the JAR hash matching a project on Modrinth. If the mod is not on Modrinth, or if you modified the JAR, the check will fail. It does not affect the mod list itself.
Can I configure mods without Mod Menu?
Yes, but you would need to find the config file manually. Mod Menu provides a shortcut to the config screen if the mod includes one. Without Mod Menu, you edit the config file in a text editor.
Does Mod Menu work on Quilt?
Yes. Quilt is a Fabric fork and maintains compatibility with most Fabric mods, including Mod Menu.
Do I need Cloth Config for Mod Menu to work?
No, but they pair well. Cloth Config provides the config screen framework that many mods use. Mod Menu is the launcher that opens those screens. Installing both gives you the full experience.

Why this listing exists

Most resource sites either dump hundreds of unverified links with no context, or hide downloads behind fake countdown timers and redirect chains. This page follows a different approach: it shows the resource's real metadata, links to the creator's original page, and states clearly what we have and have not verified.

If you find a broken link, an incorrect version, or a download that goes somewhere unexpected, report it using the contact form. If you are the creator and want this listing removed or changed, see Copyright / DMCA.
