What Drehmal actually is

Drehmal is a fully realized fantasy world, not a level. The map spans a 12,000 × 12,000 block area with custom biomes — orange-dusted savannas, fertile river valleys, crystalline forests, and islands floating above a dead sea. Every location has a history, and thousands of years of written records give each mountain, ruin, and village a sense of place.

It's also playable. You can break terrain, mine through castle walls, build wherever you want, and still follow the main story. Most adventure maps lock you into a corridor — Drehmal hands you a world and trusts you to explore it.

The story itself: you play as a high-ranking general of the fallen Afsoum Empire, frozen in time for a thousand years, waking with no memory of your identity or past achievements. The campaign asks three questions — why the empire collapsed in a single day, what happened after, and what came before — and answers them across the map.

How to install it

The creator strongly recommends the custom installer — it downloads the map, resource pack, Fabric, and every required mod dependency, and creates a dedicated Drehmal profile in your launcher. Manual installation works too, but you'll need to match mod versions yourself.

  1. Download the installer for your OS from drehmal.net (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  2. Run it. On Windows you'll see a "Windows protected your PC" warning — click "More info", then "Run anyway". This is normal for unsigned installers.
  3. Let the installer finish. It creates a Drehmal profile in your Minecraft launcher.
  4. Launch the profile and select the Drehmal world from the Singleplayer list.
Fabric required. All mods used by Drehmal are client-side and require Fabric. On multiplayer servers, every player must have the mods and resource pack installed locally — the server cannot push them.

Both. Drehmal is played almost entirely in survival mode. You can break terrain, mine through castle walls, and build wherever you want, while also following a full main story with quests and dungeons.
How long does Drehmal take to complete?
The main story is substantial. The map has been in development for 5 years, with nearly 10 years of written lore behind it. Completion times vary widely depending on how much exploration and side content you pursue — most players report dozens of hours for the main campaign alone.
Can I play Drehmal on Bedrock Edition?
No. Drehmal is a Java Edition map that requires Fabric and client-side mods. There is no Bedrock version, and no conversion tool preserves the custom biomes, structures, or mod-dependent mechanics.
Do I need a powerful PC to run Drehmal?
A mid-range dedicated GPU is recommended. The map is large and uses custom biomes and structures that increase rendering load. Allocate at least 6 GB of RAM to Minecraft and expect longer initial load times than vanilla.
