Balm

An abstraction layer for multi-loader mods — the invisible plumbing that lets Waystones, Comforts, Cooking for Blockheads, and other BlayTheNinth mods run on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge from a single codebase. If a mod you installed says Balm is missing, this is the fix.

What Balm actually does

Balm is similar in purpose to Architectury API: it provides a shared codebase that mods can use to support multiple loaders without duplicating code. The difference is scope. Architectury is a broad cross-loader framework used by dozens of authors. Balm is a smaller, more focused abstraction layer used primarily by mods from a single author, BlayTheNinth.

If you installed a mod like Waystones, Comforts, or Cooking for Blockheads and the game says Balm is missing, this is the fix. Balm doesn't add content, doesn't change gameplay, and doesn't show up as a feature in-game. It's the scaffolding that other mods stand on.

The practical consequence: you don't install Balm because you want Balm. You install it because something else needs it. That's true of most library mods — Architectury, Cloth Config, Fabric API — and Balm is no different.

Which mods depend on Balm

1
WaystonesTeleportation network mod — one of the most popular uses of Balm.
2
ComfortsSleeping bags and hammocks for portable rest.
3
Cooking for BlockheadsKitchen multi-block and recipe book integration.
4
Other BlayTheNinth modsMost of the author's catalogue uses Balm as a shared dependency.

How to install it

Balm is a standard mod JAR. The install depends on your loader, but the process is the same — drop the file into the mods folder.

  1. Download the version matching your loader — Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge. The JARs are different and not interchangeable.
  2. Download the version matching your Minecraft version. Balm ships separate builds per MC version; loading the wrong one will crash on startup.
  3. Drop the JAR into .minecraft/mods (or your launcher's mods folder for the profile you're using).
  4. Launch the game. If the dependent mod was failing before, it should load normally now. If it still says Balm is missing, check that you installed the matching loader build — Forge JAR into a Fabric profile will not work.
Dependency, not a feature mod. Balm adds nothing visible to the game. If you're installing it because a mod told you to, that's the only reason you need it. Remove the dependent mod, and Balm can be removed too.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Balm if I don't use Waystones?
No. Balm is a dependency library — it only needs to be installed if another mod in your load order requires it. Standalone, it adds nothing to the game.
Is Balm the same as Architectury API?
No. Both are multi-loader abstraction layers, but Architectury is a broad framework used by many mod authors, while Balm is a smaller, more focused layer used primarily by mods from BlayTheNinth.
Which mod loaders does Balm support?
Balm supports Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. The exact loader availability depends on the Minecraft version you are running.
Does Balm work on both client and server?
Yes. Balm is a library — whether it needs to be on the client, the server, or both depends on the mod that depends on it. Most mods that require Balm need it on both sides.
Will Balm slow down my game?
No. Balm is a small abstraction layer with no gameplay content. It adds negligible overhead — its purpose is to let other mods run without duplicating loader-specific code.

Why this listing exists

Most resource sites either dump hundreds of unverified links with no context, or hide downloads behind fake countdown timers and redirect chains. This page follows a different approach: it shows the resource's real metadata, links to the creator's original page, and states clearly what we have and have not verified.

If you find a broken link, an incorrect version, or a download that goes somewhere unexpected, report it using the contact form. If you are the creator and want this listing removed or changed, see Copyright / DMCA.
