Chocapic13's Shaders

One of the oldest shader packs still in use — and the base many modern shaders were built on. Four performance tiers from Lite (integrated graphics) to Ultra (dedicated GPU) make it a reference point for what shaders can achieve on constrained hardware. Bliss and Aurora Viva both descend from it.

What Chocapic13's Shaders actually does

Chocapic13's Shaders is a performance-focused shader pack with multiple quality presets. It is not the most visually advanced pack — modern shaders like BSL and Photon have surpassed it visually — but it runs on hardware that heavier shaders cannot handle. The Lite preset is specifically designed for low-end systems, which is why the pack remains in use long after its last update.

The original pack was last updated in February 2021, but it remains widely used and serves as the base for many modern derivatives. If you want a more actively maintained version, consider Bliss (an edit of Chocapic V9) or Aurora Viva. Both keep the Chocapic aesthetic while adding newer features and ongoing compatibility work.

The performance tiers are the pack's defining feature. Most shader packs offer a "low" option as an afterthought. Chocapic13 was built around the idea that shaders should be accessible across the hardware spectrum, not just for people with dedicated GPUs. That design philosophy is why the Lite preset is genuinely playable on integrated graphics, where heavier shaders would drop below 20 FPS.

Performance tiers

1
LiteDesigned for integrated graphics and older laptops. Basic shader effects without the performance hit.
2
MediumBalanced settings for mid-range GPUs. The sweet spot for most players.
3
HighFull effects for dedicated GPUs with headroom. Shadows, volumetric light, and detailed water.
4
UltraEverything enabled, no compromises. For high-end cards where the shader is not the bottleneck.

How to install it

Chocapic13's Shaders is a shader pack, not a mod. It runs inside Iris or OptiFine. You drop it into shaderpacks, not mods.

  1. Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft version. Iris + Sodium is recommended for the best performance.
  2. Download the Chocapic13 shader pack from CurseForge. Do not extract the ZIP.
  3. Place the .zip in .minecraft/shaderpacks.
  4. In-game: Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs. Select Chocapic13. Choose your performance tier in the shader settings.
Consider an edit. The original Chocapic13 pack has not been updated since 2021. If you want active maintenance and newer features, try Bliss (Chocapic V9 edit) or Aurora Viva (Chocapic V9 edit for 26.3).

Frequently asked questions

Is Chocapic13 still updated?
The original pack on CurseForge was last updated in February 2021. It still works, but does not receive new features. For an actively maintained edit, use Bliss or Aurora Viva.
Will Chocapic13 run on my laptop?
The Lite preset is designed for low-end hardware. If it still struggles, try MakeUp Ultra Fast, which is even lighter.
What is the difference between Chocapic13 and Bliss?
Bliss is a large edit of Chocapic13's V9.0–V9.1. It adds features like Distant Horizons support, floodfill colored lighting, and AgX tonemapping. Chocapic13 is the original base.
Does Chocapic13 work on Iris?
Yes. Chocapic13 works on both Iris and OptiFine. It's compatible with Sodium's rendering pipeline via Iris.
Which preset should I use?
Lite for integrated graphics or older laptops. Medium for mid-range GPUs. High and Ultra for dedicated GPUs with headroom for shaders. Start with Lite and move up if performance allows.
