Tea Shaders

A vanilla-plus shader that adds a little extra without changing the game's identity. Waving grass and leaves, customizable water colors, SSAO, HDR, TAA, and biome-specific fog. If most shader packs overshoot for your taste, Tea is the one that doesn't. Currently in a 2.0 development cycle with major performance increases.

What Tea Shaders actually does

Tea is not trying to be BSL or SEUS. It is designed to keep Minecraft looking like Minecraft, with subtle improvements. The waving grass and leaves are the most noticeable addition. Beyond that, it offers customizable fog, water colors, and a swamp biome effect that is planned to expand. The intent is enhancement, not transformation — a distinction that matters when most modern shaders are competing for how dramatically they can alter the game's look.

The 2.0 development cycle is focused on performance. The Dev builds are usable and include all but two features from the pre-2.0.0 versions. If you're already on Tea and considering the Dev branch, the missing features are minor enough that most players won't notice — but the performance gains are the reason the Dev branch exists.

The 122 KB file size is worth pointing out. Most shader packs are several MB. Tea's small footprint is a sign of its focus: fewer effects, leaner code, lower hardware demands. If you've tried other shaders and they drop your frame rate below 60 on a laptop, Tea is likely to hold up where they didn't.

Core features

1
Waving grass and leavesThe most visible change from vanilla — foliage moves, other geometry stays still.
2
Custom water colorsThree settings for texture and biome effects — tune the look without replacing the aesthetic.
3
Customizable fogIncluding underwater fog — a detail many shaders skip.
4
Post-processing + Nether heat refractionSSAO, HDR, tonemapping, TAA, improved FXAA — plus a heat shimmer effect in the Nether.

How to install it

Tea is a shader pack, not a mod. It runs inside Iris or OptiFine. You drop it into shaderpacks, not mods.

  1. Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft version. Iris + Sodium is recommended for the best performance.
  2. Download the latest Dev build from CurseForge. Do not extract the ZIP.
  3. Place the .zip in .minecraft/shaderpacks.
  4. In-game: Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs. Select Tea Shaders.
Dev builds. The 2.0.0 Dev versions are actively developed. They are usable and include nearly all features, but may have minor bugs. If you want stability, use the latest non-Dev release.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tea a lightweight shader?
Yes. Tea is designed to be lightweight. The file size is 122 KB, and the feature set is focused on subtle vanilla improvements rather than heavy effects. It should run on integrated graphics.
Does Tea change the game's look significantly?
No. Tea is a vanilla-plus shader. It adds waving grass, subtle fog, and post-processing, but the overall look remains close to vanilla. If you want a dramatic visual overhaul, use BSL or Photon instead.
What is the swamp biome effect?
Tea adds a custom fog and atmosphere effect for swamp biomes. The creator plans to add more biome-specific effects in future updates.
Are the Dev builds stable?
The 2.0.0 Dev versions are actively developed. They are usable and include nearly all features, but may have minor bugs. If you want stability, use the latest non-Dev release.
Does Tea work on Bedrock Edition?
No. Tea is a Java Edition shader pack for Iris and OptiFine. Bedrock Edition does not support shaders in the same way.
