Fresh Animations

Adds lifelike movement to Minecraft mobs without changing the vanilla art style. Cows flick their ears, chickens bob their heads, and villagers gesture as they walk. Over 100 million downloads on CurseForge — one of the most installed packs in Minecraft history, and the foundation most other animation packs are built on.

What Fresh Animations actually does

Fresh Animations is a resource pack, not a mod. It changes how mob models move by using OptiFine's custom entity model format. On Fabric, you need Entity Model Features (EMF) and Entity Texture Features (ETF) to load it. That distinction matters: this isn't a texture swap, and it isn't a performance mod. It's an animation layer that sits on top of whatever mob textures you're already using.

The pack does not change textures. It changes animation. A vanilla cow stands still with rigid legs. A Fresh Animations cow shifts its weight, flicks its ears, and turns its head. The difference is subtle but immediately noticeable — after an hour with the pack installed, going back to vanilla feels like the mobs are frozen. The 100 million downloads are the strongest possible evidence that players find this worth the effort.

It covers almost every mob in the game: passive mobs (cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, villagers), hostile mobs (zombies, skeletons, spiders, creepers), special mobs (golems, wandering traders, bosses), and baby variants with their own animation sets. If it's a vanilla mob, it probably moves differently with this pack installed. Add-ons extend it to more specific cases — horse retextures, player eye animations, and mod compatibility patches for custom mobs.

What it animates

1
Passive mobsCows, pigs, sheep, chickens, and villagers — weight shifts, head turns, subtle fidgeting.
2
Hostile mobsZombies, skeletons, spiders, and creepers — attacks have wind-up, walking has weight.
3
Special mobsGolems, wandering traders, and bosses — more complex animations for more complex models.
4
Baby variantsAdditional animation sets for baby mobs — they move differently from adults, as they should.

How to install it

Fresh Animations is a resource pack, not a mod. It requires an animation loader — OptiFine, or EMF + ETF on Fabric. You cannot install it on vanilla Minecraft and have it work.

  1. On OptiFine: Install OptiFine, place the Fresh Animations ZIP in resourcepacks, and enable it.
  2. On Fabric: Install Fabric, then install EMF and ETF from Modrinth. Place the Fresh Animations ZIP in resourcepacks and enable it.
  3. Launch the game. Animations apply automatically to affected mobs.
Version note. The latest release (v1.10.5) dropped support for pre-26.1 versions. If you are on an older Minecraft version, use an older Fresh Animations release. Check the CurseForge file list for your version.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fresh Animations need OptiFine?
On OptiFine, yes — it uses OptiFine's custom entity model format. On Fabric, you need EMF and ETF instead. You cannot use Fresh Animations on vanilla Minecraft without one of these.
Will it work with other resource packs?
Fresh Animations is designed for the vanilla look. It may conflict with packs that replace mob models or textures. Load Fresh Animations above your base texture pack if you want the animations to apply.
Does it affect performance?
Entity animation has a minor performance cost, but it is not a rendering overhaul like Sodium. On most systems, the impact is negligible.
Why did Fresh Animations stop working after an update?
The latest release (v1.10.5) dropped support for pre-26.1 versions. If you are on an older Minecraft version, use an older Fresh Animations release. Check the CurseForge file list for your version.
Does Fresh Animations work on Bedrock?
No. Fresh Animations uses OptiFine's custom entity model format, which Bedrock does not support. Bedrock has its own animation systems, but Fresh Animations is not available there.

Why this listing exists

Most resource sites either dump hundreds of unverified links with no context, or hide downloads behind fake countdown timers and redirect chains. This page follows a different approach: it shows the resource's real metadata, links to the creator's original page, and states clearly what we have and have not verified.

If you find a broken link, an incorrect version, or a download that goes somewhere unexpected, report it using the contact form. If you are the creator and want this listing removed or changed, see Copyright / DMCA.
