Patrix 32x

A realistic texture pack designed for use with shaders. Uses OptiFine-format tiling and randomization instead of high resolution to add detail. Significantly heavier than other 32x packs because of the extra textures. Without a LabPBR-compatible shader, it looks wrong — this pack is built around the shader pipeline, not as an optional enhancement.

What Patrix 32x actually does

Patrix is not a typical texture pack. It does not simply redraw vanilla textures at higher resolution. Instead, it uses OptiFine's tiling and randomization features to create the illusion of much higher detail. A stone wall is not one texture repeated — it is a set of varied textures that tile together naturally. The extra textures are why the pack is heavier than other 32x packs, despite the resolution being the same.

The pack is explicitly designed for shaders. Without a shader that supports LabPBR normal and specular mapping, the textures can look flat or incorrect. With the right shader, Patrix produces some of the most realistic results available in Minecraft. The trade-off is real: this pack doesn't work as an "install and go" option the way Faithful does. It requires setting up the shader stack first, then layering the pack on top.

The 64x, 128x, and 256x versions are on Patreon, and they're heavier still. The 32x version is already significantly more demanding than a typical 32x pack. Higher resolutions require a genuinely powerful GPU — not just a mid-range one — and 8+ GB of VRAM to load without stuttering. If you're considering the Patreon tiers, that's the hardware expectation.

What makes it different

1
Tiling and randomizationInstead of higher resolution, Patrix uses many texture variants that tile naturally — stone, dirt, and grass all have subtle variation.
2
Shader-dependentRequires Iris or OptiFine with LabPBR support for intended results — without a shader, it looks flat.
3
Custom mob animationsFrom FreshLX, creator of Fresh Animations — mob models animate naturally as part of the pack.
4
Significantly heavierUses hundreds of extra textures despite 32x resolution — needs a dedicated GPU and adequate VRAM.

How to install it

Patrix has multiple components: Basic (required), Models, Bonus, and Addon. You need to install them in the correct order for the pack to work as intended.

  1. Install Iris or OptiFine with a LabPBR-compatible shader — SEUS PTGI, Complementary Reimagined, or Kappa Shader are common choices.
  2. Download the Patrix 32x pack from Modrinth. The Basic pack is the required foundation.
  3. Load Basic at the bottom of the resource pack list, then optional packs on top — Models, Bonus, and Addon in that order.
  4. Place all ZIP files in .minecraft/resourcepacks and enable them in the correct order.
Shader required. Patrix is designed to be used with shaders. Without a LabPBR-compatible shader, the textures may look wrong. Do not install Patrix expecting it to work like Faithful or Stay True.

Frequently asked questions

Is Patrix 32x heavier than Faithful 32x?
Yes, significantly. Patrix uses hundreds of extra textures for tiling and randomization, despite being 32x resolution. Faithful 32x uses one texture per block. Patrix uses many.
Do I need the Patreon version?
No. The 32x version is free on Modrinth. The 64x, 128x, and 256x versions are available on Patreon. The 32x version is already heavy; the higher resolutions require a powerful GPU.
Will it work without shaders?
It will load, but the textures may look flat or incorrect. Patrix relies on shader features for normal and specular mapping. Without shaders, you are not seeing the pack as intended.
What shader should I use with Patrix?
Any LabPBR-compatible shader. Common choices include SEUS PTGI, Complementary Reimagined, and Kappa Shader. The pack also includes custom mob animations from FreshLX.
Can I use Patrix 32x with Faithful?
No. They are both full texture packs and replace the same files. Loading both will cause conflicts. Pick one.
