What Open World Zombie Apocalypse actually is

Open World Zombie Apocalypse is exactly what the name says: an open world. Custom terrain, cities, loot, and exploration — no corridor forcing you from one scripted encounter to the next. You can go anywhere, find anything, and survive at your own pace. The map gained its popularity from scale, not from set pieces.

The original map is combat-focused — zombies, destruction, the whole apocalypse. A community "Restored" version exists that removes zombies and destruction, allowing players to explore the map's builds without combat. The restored version is 95% complete and has known issues, including unfinished sand in Los Echos and a broken train fast travel system.

Neither version is officially maintained anymore. The community keeps the map playable on modern versions, but expect rough edges — this is a preservation effort, not a polished release.

How to install it

This is a Java Edition map, distributed through community listings. The Restored version is the most reliable build on modern Minecraft — the original may need version juggling.

  1. Download the map using the button above, or from the Planet Minecraft / TL MODS listing.
  2. Extract the folder that contains level.dat at its root into .minecraft/saves.
  3. Launch Minecraft and select the world from the Singleplayer list.
  4. For the restored version, use Minecraft 1.20.1 as recommended by the uploader. Older clients may load the world but may not include every restored section.
Unofficial sources. The original map is not hosted on a single official page. Community reuploads exist on Planet Minecraft, TL MODS, and other sites. Check the source before downloading. The "Restored" version on Planet Minecraft is explicitly marked as unofficial by its uploader.

Why this listing exists

Most resource sites either dump hundreds of unverified links with no context, or hide downloads behind fake countdown timers and redirect chains. This page follows a different approach: it shows the resource's real metadata, links to the creator's original page, and states clearly what we have and have not verified.

If you find a broken link, an incorrect version, or a download that goes somewhere unexpected, report it using the contact form. If you are the creator and want this listing removed or changed, see Copyright / DMCA.
