Jade

Look at a block, see what it is. Look at a chest, see what's inside without opening it. Look at a mob, see its health. In vanilla that's a minor convenience. In a modpack with 200 mods and hundreds of unfamiliar blocks, it's the only way to tell a Mekanism machine from a Create contraption without breaking them.

What Jade actually does

Jade is the modern successor to WAILA and Hwyla, two older information HUD mods that stopped updating. When you look at a block or entity, Jade displays a small tooltip with its name, the mod it comes from, and other relevant details. That's the whole feature. The impact comes from how often you use it.

In modded Minecraft, this is more useful than it sounds. A modpack with 200 mods adds hundreds of blocks you have never seen — machines, decorative blocks, functional blocks that all look subtly different. Without Jade, identifying them means opening the inventory and checking recipes, or breaking them to see what drops. With Jade, you look at the block and its name appears. That's the entire interaction. You don't even have to stop moving.

The mod also handles entity health and container contents. Looking at a chest shows what's inside without opening it. Looking at a mob shows its health. Neither is critical, but both save time. Jade's design philosophy is "the information is already there in the game data, so why not display it" — and once you get used to it, playing without it feels like walking around with one eye closed.

What it shows

1
Block namesIncluding the mod name — a Mekanism machine shows as "Enrichment Chamber (Mekanism)" instead of just an unfamiliar block.
2
Inventory contentsFor chests and machines, shows what's inside without opening them — useful for finding your storage system's contents.
3
Entity healthFor mobs and animals, shows current health — useful for combat and for checking farm health.
4
Custom dataMods can add their own tooltip lines — energy stored, progress bars, contents of custom inventories.

How to install it

Jade is a client-side mod. The server does not need it — you can join any server and see the tooltip. Install it like any other mod JAR.

  1. Download the version matching your loader — Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge. The JARs are different and not interchangeable.
  2. Download the version matching your Minecraft version. Jade ships separate builds per MC version; loading the wrong one will crash on startup.
  3. Drop the JAR into .minecraft/mods (or your launcher's mods folder for the profile you're using).
  4. Launch the game. Jade works silently — look at any block or entity and the tooltip appears. No configuration required unless you want to change the display range or toggle specific tooltip lines.
Jade vs WTHIT. Both are Hwyla forks. Jade is generally more actively maintained for newer versions. WTHIT is another option. Do not install both — they do the same thing and will conflict.

Frequently asked questions

Does Jade work on servers?
Yes. It is client-side. The server does not need Jade for it to work. Some servers may consider it a minor advantage in PvP because it reveals entity health, but it is widely accepted in survival and modded play.
Why is Jade not showing anything?
Check that the JAR is in the mods folder and that you are looking at a block within a few blocks of distance. Jade has a default range and may not display for distant blocks. You can change this in the config.
Can I use Jade with Mouse Tweaks?
Yes. They serve different purposes and do not conflict.
What is the difference between Jade and WTHIT?
Both are forks of Hwyla. Jade is more actively maintained for newer Minecraft versions. WTHIT is another option. Do not install both — they do the same thing and will conflict.
Does Jade show mod names for modded blocks?
Yes. Jade displays the block name and its mod origin — for example, a Mekanism machine will show the mod name alongside the block name. This is useful in modpacks with hundreds of blocks you don't recognize.

Why this listing exists

Most resource sites either dump hundreds of unverified links with no context, or hide downloads behind fake countdown timers and redirect chains. This page follows a different approach: it shows the resource's real metadata, links to the creator's original page, and states clearly what we have and have not verified.

If you find a broken link, an incorrect version, or a download that goes somewhere unexpected, report it using the contact form. If you are the creator and want this listing removed or changed, see Copyright / DMCA.
