Colored lighting done as voxels, not post-process
Get Photon Shader
Shader ZIP goes directly into .minecraft/shaderpacks. Iris recommended — colored lighting is Iris-exclusive.
What Photon actually does
Photon is designed for gameplay rather than screenshots. The sky, lighting, and water are fully revamped. It includes detailed multi-layer clouds, an immersive weather system that changes the sky each day, and soft shadows with variable-size penumbras. The intent is not to look photorealistic — it's to make the world feel alive while you play in it, without breaking the aesthetic that makes Minecraft recognizable.
The Ultra profile enables voxel-based colored lighting, which requires Iris. OptiFine does not support this feature. That's the key distinction: most shaders that claim "colored lighting" are faking the effect with a tint applied to light sources. Photon's colored lighting is calculated as voxels that propagate through the world — a red torch genuinely tints nearby blocks red, not just its own glow.
The pack also includes temporal upscaling, disabled by default. On a low-end device that's struggling with frame rate, enabling it can be the difference between playable and not — at the cost of some sharpness in motion. The performance profiles (Low, Medium, High, Ultra) are the primary tuning knob; the Ultra profile is where the colored lighting feature activates.

How to install it

- Place the
.zipin.minecraft/shaderpacks. - In-game: Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs. Select Photon. Start with Medium and step up to Ultra for the colored lighting.
