OptiFine · Iris (via GFME)

SEUS PTGI

Path-traced global illumination for Minecraft. The most demanding shader on this list by a wide margin — colored light bounces accurately, water reflects objects that are off-screen, and shadows are physically correct. Requires a modern dedicated GPU for playable frame rates. Distributed only by Sonic Ether, no direct download here.

What SEUS PTGI actually does

SEUS PTGI (Path Traced Global Illumination) uses path tracing to simulate how light bounces around the world. Unlike rasterized shaders that approximate lighting, PTGI traces individual light rays. The result is accurate reflections, soft shadows, and colored light bounce that other shaders cannot replicate — light that actually bounces off a red carpet and tints the nearby wall, instead of faking the tint with a post-process effect.

The tradeoff is performance. PTGI is significantly more demanding than BSL, Complementary, or Photon. On hardware without a modern dedicated GPU, frame rates will be unplayable. This is not a shader for laptops with integrated graphics, or for older cards that struggle with even moderate shaders. If you're on a GTX 1650, you may hit 30 FPS at 1080p with reduced settings — a modern GPU like an RTX 3060 or better is the realistic baseline.

Distribution is restricted. PTGI's license prohibits direct redistribution of its code, which means we cannot host the file even if we wanted to. The original is distributed through Sonic Ether's Patreon and website. A modified edition called GFME works with Iris, but it requires you to build the shader from your own copy of the original file — the jar does not contain the shader code itself.

What makes it different

1
Path-traced global illuminationLight bounces accurately, colors bleed onto nearby surfaces — physically correct, not faked.
2
Off-screen reflectionsWater reflects objects that are not currently visible on screen — a rasterization limit PTGI doesn't have.
3
Metal sunlight causticsIn the GFME modified edition — light focuses through transparent geometry.
4
PBR supportWorks with PBR resource packs for parallax and specular mapping.

Hardware requirements

SEUS PTGI requires a dedicated GPU. Integrated graphics will not run it at playable frame rates. The GFME modified edition notes compatibility with Iris 1.7.0+ and OptiFine above Minecraft 1.8.9 (released after April 2019).

For 1080p gameplay, expect to need a GPU with at least 6 GB of VRAM for light packs, and 8+ GB for PTGI at playable settings. For 1440p or 4K, budget accordingly — PTGI's VRAM usage scales with resolution and shader quality.

How to install it (GFME modified edition)

The GFME edition is a modified version that works with Iris. Because PTGI's EULA prohibits direct redistribution, you must build it yourself from your own copy of the original file:

  1. Download the GFME jar from its GitHub releases page.
  2. Download a vanilla unedited PTGI file from Sonic Ether's Patreon.
  3. Place both files in the same folder and run the jar. It will build the shader from the original file plus the GFME patches.
  4. Move the resulting folder or zip into .minecraft/shaderpacks.
Do not redistribute. PTGI's license prohibits sharing the extracted files. Build it for your own use. Do not upload it to file-sharing sites.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run SEUS PTGI on a GTX 1650?
Technically yes, but frame rates will be low. PTGI is path-traced and designed for modern GPUs. A GTX 1650 may reach 30 FPS at 1080p with reduced settings, depending on the scene. A mid-range GPU like an RTX 3060 or better is recommended for playable frame rates.
Is SEUS PTGI free?
The original is distributed by Sonic Ether, historically through Patreon. The GFME modified edition is free but requires you to obtain the original file first.
Does PTGI work with Iris?
The GFME modified edition supports Iris 1.7.0 and above. The original PTGI was built for OptiFine.
Why can't I download SEUS PTGI from this page?
PTGI's license prohibits direct redistribution of its code. The original file is only distributed by Sonic Ether. We link to the creator's page instead of hosting the file ourselves.
What is SEUS PTGI GFME?
GFME is a modified edition that works with Iris. Because PTGI's EULA prohibits redistributing the extracted files, the GFME jar builds the shader from your own copy of the original PTGI file. You must obtain the original from Sonic Ether first.

Why this listing exists

Most resource sites either dump hundreds of unverified links with no context, or hide downloads behind fake countdown timers and redirect chains. This page follows a different approach: it shows the resource's real metadata, links to the creator's original page, and states clearly what we have and have not verified.

If you find a broken link, an incorrect version, or a download that goes somewhere unexpected, report it using the contact form. If you are the creator and want this listing removed or changed, see Copyright / DMCA.
